Kindness, Cookies, & Happiness

It absolutely amazes and inspires me that kindness can be found everywhere.  While I was on a quick road trip up the California coast this past weekend, my husband and I stopped at a tiny town called Cayucos, and we stopped into a cute little cookie shop for dessert.  And while the cookies at Brown Butter Cookie Company were delicious, my happiness boost actually came from the cookie wrapper!

That’s right, the wrapper.

So I was standing at the register and I look over and see a basket with 3 cookies in these little wrapper bags that have little notes on them: “You are a unique gift, share yourself.”

I was so amazed and excited that I said to the cashier, “wow these are awesome, that is so cool that you guys do this.”  And she looked at me and said, “it’s not us!  Every day a local teacher comes in, buys a bag of cookies, eats one and then leaves the rest with us in these decorated cookie bags for people to take, for free.”

I was blown away, inspired, and filled with hope for humanity all at the same time.

A lady comes into the store every day and leaves a few cookies to brighten someones day.  No marketing, no name, anonymous and  absolutely beautiful.

Shawn Achor, a positive psychologist and happiness expert, teaches us that we can increase happiness levels in our lives through doing one conscious act of kindness a day.  He suggests that we send an email of gratitude and appreciation to a coworker, a friend, or someone that we barely know in our lives every single day.

It’s scientifically proven that this will boost your happiness levels.

And it also brightens the person’s day that’s receiving the note.

That’s so awesome! It’s a win win!

And what a beautiful way to start your morning.

I recently received a card in the mail.  It was a note from one of my best friends and it said:

“Lindy, I just want to tell you how proud I am of you and what an inspiration you are to me and women in general.  I love how you find something you are passionate about and live it fully, find a way to incorporate it into your work and your life, then use it to help others.  You are a beautiful soul and I am so blessed to have you as a friend.  I love you.”

I am the lucky one! I can’t even find the words to describe how meaningful that note was to me.  I’ve literally carried it around with me all week in my purse.  And even though my week was busy and stressful, I was filled with happiness and encouragement each time I looked at that card.  She boosted my levels of happiness and joy throughout the day, throughout the week, and now into the weekend.

What a beautiful gift and opportunity to send someone a happiness boost.

In doing this, we train the mind to be more positive, happier, and lighter in life.  We bring a sprinkle of happiness and joy to everyone we meet.

I would love to hear YOUR ideas, experiences, and wisdom for spreading happiness!  Send me an email or post below 🙂
